THE LAUNDRY ROOM, A KEY ROOM IN 4 STEPS

Is your laundry room a sad place where nothing seems nice? Given the time you spend in that room, maybe it’s time to do something about it! Even the smallest spaces used for laundry and clothes care can be perfectly functional and stylish, as long as every square metre is used to its full potential. Here are a few tips for a smart, practical and well-designed laundry room!

01-  GET THE MOST OUT OF YOUR SPACE FROM FLOOR TO CEILING

Whether you can count on a full room or a dedicated space in the kitchen, the bathroom or the garage, a fully functional laundry area can be set up even in the most confined spaces.

For a tidy and organized laundry room, install shelves and cabinets from floor to ceiling by combining open and closed shelves. Open storage just above the appliances will give you easy access to laundry products and other everyday items. Closed cupboards protect laundry from dust and conceal practical but unattractive laundry essentials and accessories.

If you have enough space, add an extra tall cupboard with a parallel, folding or hinged lift-up door. You will be able to store items you use less often and keep hazardous products out of the reach of children.

Finally, a cupboard, even a narrow one, can accommodate ironing boards, brooms, vacuum cleaner and other cleaning essentials.

02- A SMART LAUNDRY ROOM STARTS WITH THE RIGHT THINGS

The laundry basket is obviously a must in the laundry room. The sliding hamper hidden in a cabinet allows you to free up the floor and worktops to save more space.

To make sorting easier, have more than one basket: one for white clothes and three others for coloured clothes, household linen and delicate clothes, for example.

You’ll also want to install a rod to have shirts or delicate garments dry on hangers. Drawers with dividers and various size baskets will also be very useful for storing accessories such as clothes pegs or hangers.

03- A WOODEN WORKTOP

Like in the kitchen, a worktop is an important element in the laundry room. It is useful for sorting and folding laundry, scrubbing stubborn stains or to put baskets and products. If you own a front-loading washing machine and have little space, the most efficient solution is to set up your worktop just on top of your appliances.

By opting for a wooden countertop, you benefit from a low-maintenance resistant surface.
